The Two Sisters 2019 Merlot is yet another triumph, boasting exceptional varietal character. The fall was long and warm, allowing for extended hang time and flavour development. This Merlot then spent 30 months evolving in barrel, 70% French and 30% American, attaining the complexity and polish that is the benchmark for Niagara Merlot.
The concentration of the wine is evident in the glass, conveyed by its rich, deep ruby color. The expressive aromatics are immediately detectable as the wine is poured, and the inviting nose of luscious fruit fills the air. Upon closer examination, the nose reveals the backbone of ripe dark cherries and plums, combined with barrel notes, sweet baking spices, clove and cedar. The palate is layered, textured and balanced. The structure of the wine is a lovely integration of soft acidity, supple tannin and just the right level of warmth from the alcohol. The result is an extraordinary tasting experience, as the wine provides the delightful flavours of dark fruit along with more subtle notes of vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa and mocha, while offering such exceptionally balanced and complementing structure. The palate transitions into a lovely, delicate finish, confirming this Merlot as a wine of true elegance.
